12 injured, 3 killed in Sallaghari accident

A tree collapses a moving bus and motorbike in Bhaktapur, killing 3 people.

At Sallaghari in Bhaktapur this afternoon, a bus and a scooter were struck by a falling tree, resulting in three immediate fatalities and 12 additional injuries. The cars were struck by a tree that suddenly fell, according to the Metropolitan Police Range Bhaktapur, while they were in motion.

According to Raju Pandey, range information officer deputy superintendent of police, the bus (Ba 2 Kha 3584) was traveling from Kathmandu to Dudhpati via Thimi, while the two-wheeler (Ba 61 Pa 3968) was traveling from Dudhpati, Bhaktapur, to Sallaghari when the accident occurred.

Eyewitnesses reported that two of the fatalities were bus passengers and one was a scooter passenger. The Iwamura Hospital in Sallaghari, the Madhyapur Hospital in Thimi, and the Bhaktapur International Hospital in Kaushaltar received the injured patients right away.

It is believed that the number of injured may increase and that the identities of the deceased and injured have not yet been determined. Rescue operations were in progress at the time that this story was filed. The ancient tree was down by the wind at midday today, according to the residents.
