Threat Of Air Pollution In Kathmandu, Nepal

Naturally well resource Nepal,  should be a healthy and peaceful country. But today's scenario bit different and nasty because of pollution. This is due to the sudden increase in pollution. In Kathmandu, the level of pollution is increasing in such a way that people were bearing eye itching and aching problem and fatal disease like cancer. But why pollution is increasing at a rapid pace in Kathmandu?  how much it will impact us??   And learn about government roles to tackle the ongoing problem.

Pollution in Kathmandu is not a puzzling thing. But on 20, Poush 2078 B.S pollution break the record. Where Air Quality Index(AQI) remains 400 for the entire day and maximum reach up to 488.  As a result, Kathmandu enlisted as the most polluted city in the world. AQI is scaled, which describes the ongoing pollution status on a real-time basis. It measured 2.5 levels per cubic meter. where P.M 2.5 is a standard quality measure. This means 2.5 micro diameter below particulate can measure it. simply it tells about the concentration of particulate in the air. For example in Kathmandu, air for a 1-meter cube contains 488 micrograms. P.M  2.5 particulates are present there. If the P.M ratio is greater than 2.5, then caused serious deep penetration on our lungs, Even we are wearing a facial mask. If this level Reaches up to 300, then called a hazardous level. This means it adversely affects human health and is necessary to declare public health emergence condition. From such pollution minor causes like cough and major risks like chronicle and cancer disease. But unfortunately, Nepal AQI has already crossed 400 But the government is still silently watching.

Why Kathmandu Is The Epicenter Of Pollution??

In Kathmandu unmanaged urbanization, Excess petrol and diesel-based vehicle, Industrial sites through emitted pollution. and forest firing is the major contributor to pollution in Kathmandu. But the geography of Kathmandu is promoting also reasons for air pollution. because bowl shape topography of Kathmandu city, particulate aggregate at the lowest altitude and create difficulty to escape. Unless heavy rain, the atmosphere is drowsy and unclear. During the summer season, the pollution meter Show is active. wherein rainy days, valley dwellers feel some relief from pollution. But during winter, the condition became critical. Because in winter, topology and meteorology caused the segregation of polluted air cause unescapable of pollution from the atmosphere. For the reduction of pollution, timely rainfall and wind blow are true. But nature is facing global warming. threat, so timely monsoon is also altered.

What Is Government Is Doing?

Government can do that. For the victim of pollution, According to the law they have a right to get relief from the government. For pollution reduction and prevention, is a failure to tackle the problem effectively. Nowadays, polluted phenomena are deteriorating citizens worse because AQI reading is exceeding 300 daily. In such case, government authority has to declare a public health emergency. at least government can ban the coal-burning industry and reduce fuel-based vehicles.

How Can We Safe From Pollution?

As far as possible, stay at home. If you afford an air purifier, that accesses clean oxygen. Unnecessary open woods burning activities also promote air pollution. While travel used a Proper filter type mask. Develop the habit of doing indoor exercise because morning walks also might be harmful to your health in the polluted zone. So over this problem, ultimate rainfall and blowing air is the main factor for reducing air pollution.

In Nepal, pollution is exceeded by 15 percent from the critical index, but the government is still silent. I Hope  Government awakens fast to solve this problem.
